Using the Tensiometer

Using the tensiometer

New Trudi users often find using the tensiometer to be tricky, but after some practice will only take about 2 seconds per spoke with very consistent results.

The more accurately we’re able to measure spoke tension the better Trudi will be at truing a wheel so it’s important to gather accurate spoke tension measurements.

Open the tensiometer

Depress the plunger the open a gap between the anvil and the gauge tip

Zero the tensiometer

Zero the tensiometer by positioning it so that the spoke fits in this gap, and is against the two pins

You need to support the tensiometer in such a way that it’s perpendicular to the spoke and able to measure, but ensuring that you’re not twisting the tensiometer which will cause it to misread.

Trudi will click to let you know the tensiometer has been successfully zeroed on the spoke

Measure spoke tension

Measure the spoke tension by releasing the plunger.  This will close the gap between the anvil and the gauge tip and the tensiometers spring will sandwich the spoke against the pins

Trudi will ding to let you know the spoke tension has been correctly recorded, and the spoke tension will be shown on the tablet.
